In 2002, I began a joint project with the
Partners for Fish and Wildlife and the US Fish and Wildlife Service to restore
sections of Buffalo Creek (using the Rosgen methodology), a fourth order stream
that flows west to Wheeling, WV. This stream has a rich fish diversity
(with almost 30 different species), but contains many sections that were
severely eroded and degraded. It was our intention to restore sections of
this stream to enhance habitat for fish and stream insects while increasing
stream stability. Below are some selected images of the treated stream
sections and some of the monitoring activity. It is my intention to
continue monitoring these sections for some time to come to assess the
biological and physical response to these restorative activities.
