Trypanosoma ranarum from Rana pipiens. This photo was taken from a cultured specimen that was actively dividing.  This is the epimastigote form.  The prominent structure that resembles a Brillo pad is the kinetoplast.  Above it, two basal bodies can be seen, the right side one cut longitudinally and the other (to the left), cut more obliquely.  When basal bodies divide, the daughter (DBB) tends to form perpendicularly to the parent.  This section has caught one of the flagella perfectly longitudinally and includes both central and peripheral microtubules.  113,000x
