Trichomonas augusta from the rectum of Rana pipiens. This
silver protein technique reveals the undulating membrane to the left, the
axostyle passing longitudinally through the cell, tapering to the posterior
(right) tip, the sausage-shaped, dark staining parabasal body (dictyosome or
Golgi) and the nucleus and nucleolus below the parabasal body. Some of the
anterior flagella can be seen. 2000x
Trichomonas augusta from the rectum of Rana pipiens. The
undulating membrane (rippled structure), costa (curved structure under the
undulating membrane), axostyle (rod-shaped body passing longitudinally through
the cell), and sausage-shaped, dark staining parabasal body at the upper
(anterior) end. The nucleus is below the parabasal body and slightly out of
focus. 2000x
