Hexamita intestinalis, an octaflagellate living in the rectum of Rana pipiens.  This cross section reveals three of the eight flagella with the two to the left cut exactly perpendicular to the long axis, revealing the 9+2 microtubular arrangement.  The one to the left is an anterior flagellum and to its right, inside the cell is one of the two flagella that arise anteriorly and pass through the cell exiting at the posterior end.  On the opposite side is the second posterior flagellum.  The large body in the middle is one of the two nuclei.  The other enclosed bodies are bacteria in various states of digestion.  40,000x
