egg capsule of Schistosoma mansoni embedded in the liver.  This is a section which has included the lateral spine, enabling identification to species.  Eggs from the adults are often washed downstream through the hepatic portal system and become lodged in the liver where they are not likely to exit the body.  The blue cells surrounding the egg capsule are white blood cells (likely eosinophils) essentially "walling off" the invader.  400x
